Local WHO Award
San Luis Obispo Educators Association
Craig Stewart has been an active and dedicated participant in our local association for over 15 years. During that time, he has served in several key leadership roles, including Site Representative for San Luis Obispo High School, Treasurer from 2013–2015, President from 2015–2017, and Vice President from 2018–2019. After leaving the Executive Board, Craig continued his service as an integral member of the negotiations team, where he has helped shape and strengthen our work advocating for members.
One of Craig’s colleagues remarked,
“To know Craig Stewart is to understand what compassionate leadership looks like. Throughout his years of service—from his time on SLCTA committees to his long tenure on the negotiations team—Craig has been a steady and thoughtful presence. He leads with a natural empathy that brings people together, and his vision and skill are woven into the very fabric of our Collective Bargaining Agreement.”
For Craig, the personal sacrifice that comes with union leadership has always been a labor of love for his colleagues at San Luis Obispo High School and for educators across the district. On a personal note, I am eternally grateful to Craig for the day he asked me to serve as SLCTA’s Negotiations Chair. It was a request that truly transformed my life. I am deeply honored to call this man—with his sharp wit and wicked sense of humor—my colleague, my teammate, and my dear friend.
Our union is stronger because of him.
