A Message from Your SLCTA President

Greetings Educators,

Welcome back! I hope that you’ve enjoyed a rejuvenating summer and have had a strong start to the 2026-2027 school year!

Over the summer, your SLCTA Executive Board has been busy organizing for the new school year and important challenges ahead. Several of us attended conferences to help prepare for the next year of organizing and advocating.

Several important initiatives/topics are coming up:

Our PAC interviewed the candidates for Trustee Area 2 and has endorsed Marisa Gomez for School Board. Marisa brings a wealth of knowledge about language acquisition and curriculum development. She is passionate about public education, and having her on our school board will be an asset to our district.

Thanks to our efforts in signing to extend Proposition 55, the extension proposition, Proposition 3 will be on the ballot in November. This measureextends an already existing tax on high earners. Our school district would lose over $1 million in funding annually without it.

We are putting together a Collaborative Resolution Team (CRT) to address the inequity of prep for our 1-3 grade teachers. Please reach out to Emily Cappellano or myself if you are interested in taking part in this work. PG&E has agreed to give SLCUSD approximately $8 million over two years. We will work with the district to determine how this funding can best support the students in our classrooms, keeping in mind these are not ongoing funds.

Please be aware of these and other issues affecting our education system. It is more important than ever to stay involved and aware of what’s happening in our school community.
